Drug gang leader killed in gun fight

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The leader of a drug syndicate was killed in an encounter with the police in a firearms buy-bust operation in Barangay Ibabang Iyam, this city, on Saturday morning, November 11.

Lawmen identified the fatality as Armando Armiendo, 47, of Barangay Ibabang Iyam. Armiendo was the leader of the Armiendo Drug Group and was arrested on January 11, 2021, in a drug buy-bust operation here.

Armiendo sensed that he was dealing with an undercover police officer and fired at the lawman, prompting his colleagues to return fire.

The suspect fled but was shot in the ensuing chase and was taken to the Quezon Medical Center here where he was declared dead.

Police recovered from the suspect a Smith and Wesson caliber .357 magnun loaded with four bullets, two fired cartridge cases inside the cylinder, and buy-bust money.
