'Odette'-affected fisherfolks in Palawan receive fiberglass boats from DOST
The Department of Science and Technology–MIMAROPA (DOST-MIMAROPA) provided fiberglass boats to fisherfolk in Palawan affected by typhoon Odette.

As part of the agency’s science and technology interventions project, DOST-MIMAROPA said it aims to help typhoon-affected fishing communities in six municipalities regain their fishing livelihoods.
DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. and DOST-MIMAROPA Regional Director Dr. Ma. Josefina P. Abilay led the turnover ceremony on Nov. 10.

Fisherfolk from Roxas received 66 boats, while those from Dumaran received 75 boat hulls for fabrication.

However, the municipalities of Araceli, Cagayancillo, San Vicente, and Taytay are still waiting for their boats.
Under the cash-for-work scheme, fisherfolk were also given fiberglass boats, fabrication training, and P6,000 each.
“They especially took part in building their own boat, with guidance from experts and skills from the training that will help give more livelihood opportunities,” DOST said.
The typhoon Odette recovery project is spearheaded by DOST-MIMAROPA and funded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
It is being implemented with the assistance of the Western Philippines University, the Provincial Government of Palawan, Provincial DRRMO, Local Government Units (LGUs), and the respective Municipal Agricultural Offices (MAOs) of Northern Palawan.
