West Zone Concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. reported the presence of yellow water in the water supplies of their consumers.
In a statement on Thursday, Nov. 9, Maynilad addressed that the color is due to the high levels of Manganese in the raw water from an outlet of Angat Dam.
The water distribution utility immediately took action after customer concerns, stating “We have already adjusted chemical dosages in our treatment plants to address the yellowish discoloration in the water supply.”
The discoloration was expected to be minimized over time, said the concessionaire.
Maynilad’s field teams also made flushing actions in their water network to reduce the issue of water quality.
Moreover, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System– Regulatory Office (MWSS RO) has also investigated the incident and advised residents in the west zone to allow the water from their taps to flow.
The MWSS also suggested that customers may store the discolored supply for non-potable uses such as toilet flushing to save water.
Subsequently, the Angat Dam was leveled to 208.8 meters, as reported on Friday morning, Nov. 10. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
