QC LGU to close Agham, BIR Roads for renaming ceremony
The Quezon City government has announced that some roads in the city will temporarily close on Friday evening, Nov. 10, as part of the preparations for the renaming ceremony of the BIR and Agham Roads to Senator Miriam P. Defensor-Santiago Avenue.
The city government said that parts of BIR Road and East Avenue will be closed starting 9 p.m. on Friday, until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.
The road that will not be passable to motorists during the said schedule will be BIR Road's lane going to Quezon Avenue (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to PAGASA Science Garden, bike lane and service road); and the bike lane along East Avenue near the entrance of BIR Road.
According to the local government, the lane from BIR Road going to East Avenue will still be open for vehicles.
Motorists were advised to take alternative routes during the closure of the said parts of the roads.

Members of the Traffic and Transport Management Department (TTMD), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) will also be deployed to ensure the safe and smooth traffic flow in the area.
In August, the Senate approved in its third and final reading House Bill 7413 that seeks to change the names of BIR and Agham Roads to Senator Miriam P. Defensor-Santiago Avenue, in honor of the late senator and to recognize her remarkable efforts and contributions to the country and Filipinos.
The measure received 22 affirmative votes and zero negative votes or abstention.
It was authored by Quezon City District 1 Rep. Arjo Atayde, District 4 Rep. Marvin Rillo, and Isabela 1st District Rep. Tonypet Albano and was filed on Dec. 9, 2022.
The roads stretch from North Avenue, passing through Quezon Avenue going to East Avenue.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte had earlier expressed support to the renaming of the roads saying that it will be a great honor for Quezon City to carry the name of the senator who fearlessly fought against corruption and stood up for the welfare and rights of the people in one of its roads.
The renaming ceremony will be held on the said roads in Diliman, Quezon City at around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Vice President Sara Duterte, Mayor Belmonte, Quezon City Vice Mayor Gian Sotto, Mr. Narciso Santiago and Dr. Linnea Evangelista, the husband and sister of the late senator, are expected to attend the event, the city government said.
