The Manila Police District (MPD) appointed a new commander of Police Station 1 (Raxabago Station) in Tondo district on Thursday, Nov. 9.

The new Police Station 1 commander, Lt. Col. Melvin Florida, was introduced during the turnover ceremony presided by MPD chief Col. Arnold Thomas Ibay at MPD Headquarters in Ermita, Manila on Thursday.
The appointment of the new police station chief came following the escape of inmates from the detention cell of Raxabago Station under Lt. Col. Roberto Mupas.
Police said the nine inmates escaped by breaking the iron grill at the side portion of the jail facility around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
MPD reported on Thursday that the police have already re-arrested seven of the escapees through extensive manhunt operations.
The manhunt continues for the remaining two escapees identified as Jefferson Bunso Tumbaga and Master Cedric Zodiacal Velasco.
"Sa mga escapees, bumalik na sila at sumuko dahil may pananagutan sila sa batas at huwag na nilang dagdagan ang kanilang pananagutan. Pwede naman silang sumuko, pwede naman silang magpasama sa mga pinagkakatiwalaan nila o dumirekta sa aking opisina (For the remaining escapees, they have to surrender because they have accountability to the law. They can surrender directly to my office or they can go with someone they trust to my office)," Ibay said.
Aside from Mupas, the officers on duty during the incident were also relieved from their posts to give way to the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the MPD announced that Lt. Col. Nelson Cortez will also assume his post as the new office-in-charge of Malate Police Station (PS-9).
