Marcos, Timor Leste President José Ramos-Horta meet at Malacañan Palace


President Marcos has welcomed Timor Leste President José Ramos-Horta at the Malacañan Palace where they will hold a bilateral meeting.

Horta was given an arrival honors at the Kalayaan Hall area inside the Malacañan grounds on Friday morning, Nov. 10.

After the ceremony, where Horta met with Marcos and other Cabinet officials, the two leaders entered the Palace for the signing of the guestbook.

It was followed by a bilateral meeting, where they discussed the two nations’ commitment to further strengthen their ties, particularly in areas of political, technical, educational and economic cooperation, among others. The Philippines and Timor-Leste formally established diplomatic relations on May 20, 2002.

After the bilateral meeting, the two officials will present their joint press statement. A banquet for the Timor Leste president and his delegation will take place after.

Horta arrived in Manila on Nov. 8. Prior to his meeting with Marcos, he held meetings with several government agencies in the country.
