DepEd joins celebration of 2023 Nat’l Deaf Awareness Week


The Department of Education (DepEd) enjoined stakeholders to participate in this year’s celebration of the National Deaf Awareness Week (NDAW) starting Friday, Nov. 10.

DepEd, through its Bureau of Learning Delivery, urged schools, teachers, and students to celebrate the 2023 NDAW which will last until Nov. 16. 

With the theme “Promote Safe and Inclusive Education: Filipino Sign Language (FSL) and other means of Communication towards a Resilient Future,” DepEd noted that the celebration aims to “instill public awareness of the plight of Deaf and Hard of hearing individuals.” 

The celebration also aimed to “promote recognition and acceptance of the Filipino Sign Language as medium language of instruction and transaction of Deaf and Hard of hearing individuals.”

DepEd noted that this year’s celebration is in partnership with the National Council on Disability Affairs, Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, Philippine School for the Deaf, Philippine Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies, Philippine Federation of the Deaf, Public Employment Service Office, Department of Labor and Employment, and the Newborn Hearing Screening Reference Center.
