2 siblings die in Cebu fire

CEBU CITY – Two young siblings died in a fire that razed their house in Barangay Dawis Norte, Carmen town, northern Cebu on Monday night, October 30.

The fatalities were identified as Jon, 8, and Jewel Caballes, 5.

According to Police Capt. Chaly Santiago of the Carmen Police Station, the fire may have been caused by a curtain that got in contact with a lighted candle.

The victims and their two other siblings were the only ones in the house at the time of the incident.

Police said the children's parents were at a neighbor’s house at the time.

The fire spread quickly and prevented the two siblings from running out of the house.

The victims’ 11-year-old sister was able to jump out of the window carrying his two-year sibling.
