11 houses damaged, 16 families displaced in Sampaloc fire

At least 11 houses were damaged while 16 families were displaced in a fire that broke out at the corner of Calamba and Sisa Streets in Sampaloc, Manila on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), three of its personnel sustained minor injuries while responding to the fire. They were immediately given first aid.
It said the fire was declared first alarm at 12:39 p.m. and reached second alarm at 12:46 p.m.
The blaze was put under control at 1:31 p.m.
It took the firefighters another hour before the fire was extinguished at 2:21 p.m.
Based on the initial investigation, the fire started on the second floor of a house owned by Jenny Vinter, 42, at around 12 p.m.
The 16 affected families, composed of 72 residents, were given hot meals.
Authorities said the cause of the fire is still unknown.
