Police trainee rescues girl who fell into a river in Rizal


A Valenzuela City Police Station (VCPS) trainee rescued a 14-year-old girl who allegedly fell  into a river under the Barkadahan Bridge in Taytay, Rizal, on Friday, Oct. 6.

The police trainee was identified as August David Jr., 26, a resident of Barangay Katuparan, Taguig City.

A video of the rescue went viral on social media.

David jumped into the river after seeing the girl who was already drowning..

Report showed that around 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 6, the girl fell into the river from the bridge in Taytay, Rizal.

David, who was riding a passenger jeepney that was crossing the same bridge witnessed the girl's fall.

The police trainee immediately alighted from the jeepney and jumped into the river to rescue the girl.

According to the Taytay Municipal Police Station, the girl was immediately rushed to Taytay Emergency Hospital where she is now in stable condition.

Valenzuela City Police Chief Col. Salvador Destura Jr., commended David for his swift and selfless action. 

“I am extremely proud of the bravery and compassion shown by our police trainee August David Jr. His action shows that police work is not only about arresting (people),” he said.
