DTI inaugurates fablab in La Union

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently inaugurated a P4.9-million packaging and labeling printing fabrication project in La Union.

The DTI said that the  Scaling-Up Entrepreneurship, Education, Development and Agri-Tourism Through Fabrication Laboratory (SEEDA FABLAB) shared service facility (SSF) project provides state-of-the-art equipment, expert guidance, and a conducive environment for learning and development to students and micro small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). 

DTI Region 1 through its provincial office in La Union, awarded the first packaging and labeling printing fabrication laboratory project to Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-North Luzon Campus last Oct. 6.

The SSF project aims to enhance public innovation in the province by utilizing advanced technologies and facilities for university students and MSMEs in La Union and nearby provinces.

In her video message, DTI Regional Operations Group Undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona underscored that the said SSF Project embodies DTI’s unwavering commitment to empower and uplift local MSMEs by enabling them to harness their full potential.  

“This facility will serve as a hub of innovation, collaboration, and growth offering state-of-the-art, equipment, expert guidance, and a conducive environment for learning and development,” Lantayona said.  

Equipment that was turned over are print and cut large format printer, off-set printer, electric paper cutter, laminator, multifunction photocopier, direct-to-film printer, direct-to-garment printer with heat-press, desktops, laser-cutter engraver, vertical cabinet, slotted rack system, laminated working table, and sewing machine.  

Meanwhile, DTI Regional Director Grace Falgui Baluyan complemented that the SSF mobilizes the competitiveness and productivity of organizations and institutions by providing modern machinery, exceptional tools and equipment, and the necessary training programs.

La Union Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David who has been very active in promoting Tatak LUcal products, was also present to express her utmost support for the project.  

The DTI said the fab lab aims to contribute to the fast-paced industry where ideas turn into possibilities and possibilities turn into realities.

The target beneficiaries are the DMMMSU-Sericulture Research and Development Institute, Silk Weaving Association, students, and MSMEs.

This is the third SSF Project awarded to DMMMSU. Other projects awarded to them are the SSF for Fish Processing at DMMMSU-College of Fisheries and SSF for Silk Processing at DMMMSU-SRDI.  (Ma. Joselie C. Garcia)
