A total of 21,000 cans of sardines were placed on top of banana leaves on tables side by side spanning a kilometer long and served to thousands of spectators who trooped to RT Lim Boulevard to participate in the boodle fight.
Participants, most of whom came from the Regatta de Zamboanga, a boat racing contest which was held prior to the boodle fight, lined up the streets to partake of sardines, biscuits, and water.
Five big canning companies in the city participated in the event by donating thousands of cans of sardines.
This city is known as the Sardine Capital of Zamboanga due to the presence of at least 12 processing factories, most of which are located in the west coast.
The event was re-launched after a three-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
