Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss hopes there were no Filipino casualties in the surprise attack of the Palestinian group Hamas in Israeli communities on Saturday, Oct. 7.
Fluss said this after the Israeli government declared a state of war following the surprise land and air attacks that hit different parts of the country.
In a Facebook post, Fluss hoped that Filipinos in Israel were safe and called on friendly countries to support Israel and condemn the attacks.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with our families, brothers and sisters in Israel. We hope and pray there are no Filipino casualties," he wrote on Saturday evening.
"We call on all our friends to show their support and friendship to Israel and condemn this terrible attack by the Hamas terror organization," he added.
According to the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Hamad infiltrated Israeli communities and started going house-to-house and "murdering innocent Israelis."
It shared a video of the supposed events on Saturday but said some images were "so disturbing we cannot even share them."
"We will take every measure to protect our citizens and target those who harm them," the Ministry said.
Meanwhile, it thanked those who expressed support for Israel.
"Thank you to all of you around the world for your constant messages of support and solidarity," it said.
"This is a dark day for all of us here in Israel, but we can feel your love and warmth from miles away," it added.
The Philippines' Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it was monitoring the situation. At the same time, the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv advised Filipinos to follow the guidelines set by the Israel Homefront Command during infiltrations.
"We are, however, continuing to monitor the situation. We have asked the authorities to secure them (Filipinos)," the DFA said.
