The House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs chairman has expressed "deep concern" for the safety of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who were allegedly captured by the Hamas near the Israeli-Palestine border.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected OFWs and their families during this challenging time," Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo said in a statement on Saturday night, Oct. 7.
"The safety and well-being of our kababayans is of utmost priority, and our government needs to ensure their swift and safe return to their loved ones," Salo said.
The veteran lawmaker went on to urge the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to do everything to ensure the immediate and safe release of the OFWs.
"We also call on the international community to support our country’s efforts of ensuring that the rights and well-being of our OFWs, as well as all the others who were captured, are respected. We urge all parties involved to exercise restraint and adhere to international humanitarian laws," he said.
"To the families affected, please know that we are with you every step of the way.
"In these trying times, let us stand united as one nation, extending our support and prayers to the safe and swift return of our fellow Filipinos in distress, and for this international crisis to be resolved and end immediately," Salo further said.
