With this statement, Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan joined on Saturday, Oct. 7 the many well-wishers of the Gilas Pilipinas men’s national basketball team after it bagged the gold in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
Yamsuan congratulated the Justin Brownlee-led national cagers following their 70-60 win over Jordan in the in the finals match on Friday night, Oct. 6.
The victory ended the Philippines’ 61-year gold medal dry spell in the Asian Games.
“Isang pagpupugay sa Gilas Pilipinas sa kanilang pag-uwi ng gintong medalya sa Asian Games matapos ang mahigit anim na dekadang paghihintay (Big honor to Gilas Pilipinas for bringing home the gold medal in the Asian Games after a six-decade long wait)," the neophyte lawmaker said.
"To our Gilas team, your victory is proof that nothing is impossible with determination and hard work,” Yamsuan said.
“Know that a proud and grateful nation awaits your return dahil ang tagumpay niyo ay tagumpay ng buong sambayanang Pilipino. Mabuhay kayo! (because your victory is the victory of the entire Filipino nation. Live forever!)" he further said.
