Just as MG Philippines made new cars and SUVs more attainable to many new car buyers, it hopes to do the same with pure electric vehicles. It’s making that happen with the introduction of two new, exciting pure electric vehicles (EV): the refined and sophisticated Marvel R EV SUV, and the fun and sporty MG4 EV Hatchback.

MG Marvel R EV

The first of the two is the Marvel R EV SUV. It can be distinguished by its striking LED daytime running lights, headlights, and taillights. They’re mounted on a shell with flowing body lines that provide a smooth contour from tip to tail.

Inside, the Marvel R pampers the passengers. They get seats with Nappa leather, equipped with both heating and ventilating functions. The interior is upholstered in soft touch materials for the dashboard and door panels. Over 95% of the interior covered by NVH soundproof materials.

The driver gets a fully digital cockpit with a 12.3-inch customizable digital cluster displays all necessary driving information in real time. The cabin features a massive 19.4-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto encased by a Corning Gorilla Glass surface plate. From here, one can control all the car’s major functionalities like 360-degree vehicle view which provides full visibility around the car from inside the cabin, the intelligent and adaptive air conditioning system; concert-quality sound from a balanced and powerful eight-speaker sound system; and a 64-color ambient lighting system that transforms the atmosphere inside or synced to the rhythm of your music. Speaking of the phone, it can be recharged via a wireless smartphone charging pad. There’s no need to swipe on the large screen as it comes with a voice-activated command system that conveniently operates basic functions such as operating the air conditioning, sun roof, windows, radio, and more, allowing you to keep both hands safely on the wheel.

Beneath the Marvel R is a two-gear Electric Drive System fitted to the rear axle, pumping out 186-Ps (137 Kw) and 410-Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in a quick 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 200km/h. Its 70kWh battery offers up to 402-km of driving range. The battery can be charged from 5-80% in just 43 minutes via a Type-2 DC charger.

While on the road, the Marvel R’s list of passive and active safety systems — including Blind Spot Detection (BSD,) Lane Keeping Assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring, Intelligent Speed Alert, Pedestrian Warning System, Traction Control, Hill Hold Control, Cornering Brake Control, and Autonomous Emergency Braking to name a few — are in place to ensure the safety of all onboard.

The MG Marvel R EV is offered as a single variant, with an SRP of P2,588,888. It is complemented by an eight-year/160,000km EV battery warranty, and a five-year/100,000 vehicle warranty.

MG4 EV Hatchback

MG’s other option is one of the most-affordable yet still practically-sized EVs on the market. That is the MG4 EV Hatchback.

This sporty hatchback has an eye-catching façade boasting of LED headlamps. It has a sloping, aerodynamic roof that ends at its dual-wing spoiler. Behind is a stylish rear light set highlighted by Cygnus cross-shaped accent lights with a full LED taillight assembly.

Designed for the youthful and energetic, it has a simple yet sophisticated instrument panel and ergonomic floating center console. The driver gets a seven-inch full LCD screen that displays the vehicle’s driving stats. For infotainment, there’s a 10.25-inch floating touch screen with reduced reflective rate that’s equipped with Apple Carplay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone connectivity. Below that is a wireless charging pad for your mobile phone, removing any hassles you might encounter from messy charging cables.

The MG4 is as athletic as it looks. It returns sharp steering and a tight turning radius. This is thanks to its rigid, aluminum alloy subframe with 50:50 front and rear load split and low a center of gravity to return exceptional handling and comfort.

In terms of power, it produces 203-Ps (150 Kw) and 250-Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels. It can launch from 0-100km/h in just 7.1 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 161km/h. The MG4’s range is likewise impressive, providing up to 435km of range on a single full charge. The MG4’s battery can fill from 10-80% in as low as 26 minutes when plugged into a Type-2 DC charger at a maximum rate of 14kW.

The MG4 EV Hatchback is available in two variants, the Standard at P1,468,888 and the Lux at P1,738,888. It is complemented by an eight-year/160,000km EV battery warranty, and a five-year/100,000 vehicle warranty.
