Cop killed in Sultan Kudarat buy-bust

ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat â€“ A police officer was killed in a buy-bust operation in Lambayong town, this province, on Thursday, October 5.

Police Col. Christopher Bermudez, Sultan Kudarat police director, said the Lambayong police drug enforcement unit led by Police Major Rodney Binoya conducted an entrapment operation against Morcid Menang Samal, a suspected high-value drug peddler, in his motorcycle parts store in Barangay Poblacion.

However, Samal sensed he was dealing with lawmen and fired at them, hitting and killing Police Chief Master Sgt. Dominic Minaling.

Police said five cohorts of the suspect arrived to rescue him, triggering a brief gunfight.

Lawmen were able to overcome the attack and arrested the suspect who yielded a .45 caliber pistol.

Samal faces drug-related, illegal possession of firearms, and homicide charges.
