Bus driver killed in Ilocos Sur smashup

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur – A bus driver died in a collision on the national highway in Barangay Poblacion West here on Friday, October 6.

Police identified the victim as Melchor V. Molina, 52, of Barangay San Isidro, San Juan, Ilocos Sur.

Investigation said the driver of a southbound Isuzu truck, Rudy Centino Jr., 37, of Caba, La Union, stepped on the brake after a motorcycle suddenly entered the national highway from a feeder road.

However, the truck slipped and collided with the northbound bus.

Due to the impact of the collision, Molina sustained serious injuries and died before reaching the hospital.  

A bus passenger, Rick Jayson V. Ramos, a student from Barangay Guimod Norte, San Juan, Ilocos Sur, was injured and taken to the hospital.

Centino was unhurt and now under police custody. Follow-up investigation on the accident is ongoing.
