Vince Magbuhos delivered the game-winner to help Adamson escape defending champion Ateneo with a 74-71 overtime victory in the first round of the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

From being down 19 in the first half, the Soaring Falcons fought back and held on until the endgame for their second straight overtime victory of the season and a 2-1 record.
Magbuhos finished with 11 points on a 4-of-6 shooting including the dagger that gifted Adamson the win, its first victory over Ateneo since 2018.
Cedrick Manzano, for his part, contributed a double-double performance of 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Eli Ramos also had 12 points of his own.
After their dismal shooting in the first half, the Soaring Falcons came out of the second half with renewed confidence and composure and managed to cut the deficit by only five on a 19-9 run in the third quarter, 53-48.
However, Ateneo came to its senses and stretched the lead back to double-digit, 60-50.
At this point, though, Adamson had already gained some momentum when Manzano fired back-to-back baskets to pull the squad within four, 66-62.
Chris Koon took one back for Ateneo with a three-pointer, but Ramos responded quickly with four straight points to put Adamson within a single possession, 69-66, with less than a minute to go.
The Soaring Falcons still sans Jerom Lastimosa had Monte Montebon to thank when he drilled the game-tying three-pointer from the corner with 29.4 seconds in regulation.
Ateneo attempted to save the regulation, but Koon ran out of time.
Both teams had one field goal each in the first minute of extra time, but struggled to make another in the next four minutes, 71-all.
But Magbuhos made the 3.3 seconds remaining count when he fired a buzzer-beater three-pointer, which was just enough to give Adamson the convincing victory.
Mason Amos and Kai Ballungay paced the Blue Eagles with 12 and 10 points, respectively, as they absorbed a 1-2 slate.
