BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways has disclosed that five high-impact road projects are ongoing in the Caraga region.
DPWH-13 Director Pol delos Santos said these projects have a total length of 418.963 kilometers and a total budget of P64.311 billion.
These are the Daang Maharlika Road from Barangay Lipata in Surigao City to Davao region, the Butuan City-Agusan del Norte Logistical Highway, the completion of the East-West Lateral Road connecting Agusan del Sur to Bukidnon, the Surigao del Norte-Agusan del Norte West Coastal Road, and the Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte-Lanuza, Surigao del Sur Road.
Delos Santos said these road projects in line with the “Build Better More” program of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. are game changers in the region’s peace and economic stability by way of increasing traffic capacities and access to public facilities and local businesses and basic services.
Dinagat project
The DPWH reported the completion of two road projects worth a total of P38.4 million in the port town of San Jose, Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI).
They are in line with the BBM program that seeks to ensure that economic flow and activity in the island-province will not be hampered, especially for businesses and farmers.

These projects are the upgrading of two sections of the Dinagat-Loreto Road implemented by the Dinagat Islands District Engineering Office (DIDEO) under District Engineer Noel C. Basañes.
In a progress report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Delos Santos said these projects are in succession to one another in Barangays Don Ruben and Santa Cruz with a total length of 2,148.73 meters of upgraded (paved) and rehabilitated carriage way with a 236-meters off-carriageway.
Delos Santos said this paved road increases mobility in the port town of San Jose and triggers more vigorous socio-economic activities that would help Dinagat Islands recover from typhoon “Odette” in December 2021.
He also said that with the newly upgraded road, the port of San Jose which is trading center of the island is now a picture of a bustling town where exchange of people and goods is at its highest.
“This completed road project will surely bring economic vitality in that island province,” Delos Santos said.
