QCPD claims viral robbery incidents 'fake'


The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said on Friday, Oct. 6., that the recent posts circulating on social media platforms about alleged robbery incidents in several establishments in Quezon City are all fabricated or fake.

According to the Public Information Office (PIO), the reported robbery incidents in different establishments, including Namiya Izakaya in Sct. Tobias, Quezon City; Banawe Starbucks in Brgy. Lourdes, Quezon City; and Shangri-La Chinese Seafood Cuisine at No. 3 Times St., Brgy. West Triangle, are all untrue.

Police said that the mentioned seafood cuisine has been replaced by a different restaurant.

The QCPD said that they conducted a thorough investigation into the posts and have confirmed that no such incidents happened.

"These posts are all fake news with the sole purpose of spreading fear among QCitizens and tarnishing the image of our city," QCPD said.

Furthermore, the police are also looking into the origins of the posts to hold those spreading fake and damaging information accountable under the law.

“We urge everyone to exercise caution and discernment when encountering unverified information online,” QCPD chief Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said.

Maranan also encouraged the QCitizens not to believe everything they see and read on social media, adding that it its better to carefully examine and verify information through trusted news sources to determine its accuracy.

"Our commitment to ensuring the safety of our community and investigating and addressing legitimate concerns remains unwavering. Nananawagan ako sa ating mga kababayan na iwasan po natin ang magpakalat ng fake news dahil ito ay may karampatang parusa ayon sa ating saligang batas (We urge ours citizens to avoid spreading fake news because it is punishable by law), ” he said.
