NPA machinegun, sniper rifle recovered in clash

BACOLOD CITY – Troops seized two high-powered firearms in an encounter with the New People’s Army (NPA) in Sitio Capaklan, Barangay Santol, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental on Friday, October 6.

The Army 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) seized an M60 general purpose machine gun, a .30 caliber Bolt action sniper rifle, a rifle grenade, assorted ammunition, subversive documents, and personal belongings.

TWO high-powered firearms were among the communist armaments seized by soldiers in a clash with the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Santol, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental on Friday, October 6. (62nd IB)

Soldiers launched an operation against the NPA in response to information from the civilians.

Troops encountered 10 members of the Regional Striking Force (RSF) and remnants of Central Negros 1 (CN1) both under Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor (KR-NCBS).

No casualties were reported in the five-minute firefight, according to the Army.

The 62nd IB said that they are grateful for the cooperation of the people in Binalbagan against the NPA.
