Municipal councilor fatally shot in Bohol


CEBU CITY – A municipal councilor was fatally shot by unidentified assailants past midnight on Friday, October 6, in Buenavista town, Bohol province.

The victim, Buenavista Councilor Danilo Añora, died on the spot from a bullet wound in the head.

Police said the victim had just attended a cockfight and was driving a motorcycle on his way home when he was attacked by motorcycle-riding gunmen.

The victim was taken to the Francisco Dagohoy Municipal Hospital in Inabanga, Bohol where attending doctors declared him dead.

Police said investigation is ongoing to determine the motive of the attack and identify the perpetrators.

Buenavista Mayor Dave Duallo condemned the attack.

“It is with a heavy heart and profound sorrow that I condemn the tragic and senseless shooting that claimed the life of Councilor Danilo Añora. It is with great sadness that I inform you of this devastating incident that has left our community in shock and mourning,” said Duallo in a statement.

Duallo described Añora’s death as a “tremendous loss” as he assured that “justice will be pursued.”

“His loss is not only a personal tragedy for his family but also a tremendous loss for our entire community. Danilo Anora’s legacy of service and his passion for improving the lives of our residents will forever be remembered and honored,” said Duallo.

“Justice will be pursued, and those responsible for this heinous act will be held accountable. During these difficult times, let us come together as one Buenavista community, offering our support and condolences to Councilor Anora’s family,” added Duallos, who is also the president of the League of the Municipalities of Philippines-Bohol chapter.
