“Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?”

It’s a question that almost everyone knows by now. Or if not the true quote, perhaps the Disney rendition from 1937, which starts the classic quote with “magic mirror” instead.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is easily one of the most recognizable children’s stories. We owe it to the efforts of the German duo, the Brothers Grimm. Their collection of folklore includes iconic stories like Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Sleeping Beauty, to name a few.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves stands out as it is nearly impossible to forget its simple premise, loveable characters, and lasting impact.  There have been countless versions of Snow White’s story and now the Repertory Philippines’ Theater for Young Audiences (RTYA) has put out its own rendition entitled Snow White and the Prince.

Snow White and the Prince is a fun new take on the timeless tale. It adds much to the story while still closely following its plot. Audience members might find that the best part of this show is its interactive elements, as cast members often interact with the crowd throughout. Another piece that stands out from the play is the look given to the seven dwarves. Their appearances are colorful, filled with vivid colors that are impossible to miss.

Leading the cast are REP and RTYA regulars Carla Guevara Laforteza and Pinky Marquez as the Queen with newcomer Julia Serad alternating. Chino Veguillas, Franco Ramos, and Sebastian Katigbak play the Mirror. In the title roles are Kiara Dario, Pappel (Ashlee Factor), Jillian Ita-as, and Anyah de Guzman as Snow White and MC Dela Cruz, Neo Rivera, and Rapah Manalo as the Prince. Abi Sulit, Ring Antonio, and Cara Barredo alternate as the Nursemaid. There are up to 14 actors in the supporting cast. Their enthusiastic performances are thanks to the direction of RTYA founder and creative director Joy Virata. She is joined by assistant director and musical director Cara Barredo, choreographer Stephen Viñas, set designer Kayla Teodoro, costume designer Raven Ong, and lights designer and technical director John Batalla.
