Mazda unveils the first ever CX-90

A sleeker, more luxurious, large SUV

100623MazdaCX901.jpgMazda hopes to expand its SUV offerings with the unveiling of the first-ever CX-90. Built on Mazda’s Large Product Platform, the designers took full advantage of its size to make it sleek, with crafted curves whose look changes in light and shadow. It comes with tasteful amounts of chrome give it timeless styling while 21-inch diamond cut alloy wheels in black metallic finish further add strength to its presence.

As expected from Mazda, the cabin is spacious and premium from the doors to the dashboard through the positioning of the vents and metallic accents. The front seats and second row captain’s chairs are ventilated, while the third row has it’s own aircon vents. Seats are adorned in supple Nappa leather and Leganu suede inserts.

The CX-90 3.3L AWD HEV Turbo offers 2+3+3 seating layout for eight adults, while the top variant CX-90 3.3L AWD HEV Turbo Exclusive offer a luxurious 2+2+2 configuration. For both variants, third-row seat access is made easy by the design of the rear doors, featuring a larger step to make entry and exit comfortable. The CX-90 has loads of cargo space behind its second and third row seats with enough to stack two golf bags on top of each other horizontally. Folding the third row increases cargo space to 1,163 liters, while folding both second and third rows flat increases this capacity to 2,025 liters. A hands-free power tailgate makes loading and unloading of cargo easier.

Powerplant

The CX-90 is powered by an all-new e-Skyactiv-G 3.3-liter inline-six turbo gasoline engine. This electrified engine puts out max power of 284-PS at 5,000-6,000 rpm with 450-Nm of torque between 2,000-3,500 rpm using 91 to 95 octane gasoline. 

The 48-volt Hybrid System’s electric motor sits between the engine and the transmission and generates 16.9 PS and 153 Nm of torque. This configuration allows the electric motor to directly power the CX-90 independently from the engine and when charged, its lithium-ion battery can run the the CX-90 on electric power with its engine disengaged to improve fuel efficiency. This hybrid system is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission specifically electrified powertrain and large platform vehicles. The CX-90 is equipped with Mazda’s Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-DRIVE) allowing the driver to select one of four drive modes: Normal, Sport, Off-Road, and Towing.

The CX-90 provides premium comfort and convenience for all occupants. Human-centric, it has with three high-definition main displays: a 12.3-inch infotainment center display, a fully digital 12.3-inch driver’s instrument panel, and a 10.4-inch heads-up display. It is also equipped with the latest Mazda Connect system with a 12-speaker Bose sound system which allows for the connection of compatible smartphones via wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Other cabin amenities include tri-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, rear door sunshades, second- and third-row USB-C charging ports, ambient lighting, and many more.

Mazda Driver Personalization System takes making the CX-90 “yours” to another level. With facial recognition technology, it automatically adjusts the seats, door mirrors, heads-up display, steering wheel and more than 250 stored settings owner’s preferences, including vehicle, audio, and climate settings. Driver Entry/Exit Assist automatically slides the seats and steering wheel back for recognized drivers for easier ingress and egress. 

Improved handling

With its front-engine, rear-wheel-bias all-wheel drive layout elevates the Mazda driving experience. Equipped with Kinematic Posture Control (KPC), which suppresses body roll when cornering offering better grip and stability. 

i-Activsense

The CX-90 is equipped with Mazda’s full suite of i-Activsense safety features, Front and Rear Smart Brake Support, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Cruising & Traffic Support, Adaptive LED Headlamps (ALH), Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring with Vehicle Exit Warning, Front and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Brake Support. Along with the new See-Through View of the 360° View Monitor displayed on the large 12.3” center display.

New color

The CX-90 is available in Mazda’s latest Takuminuri color, Artisan Red Premium, developed to suit the CX-90 and is a deeply saturated color similar in shade to a mature fine wine. It’s also available in Rhodium White Premium, Machine Gray, Platinum Quartz, Sonic Silver, Deep Crystal Blue, and Jet Black.

The CX-90 is available in two variants, the 3.3L AWD HEV Turbo at P3,680,000, and the 3.3L AWD HEV Turbo Exclusive at P3,780,000 inclusive of a five-year Free Service Plan.
