GM Eugene Torre to hold simultaneous exhibition matches at Ozamiz Chess Festival

Asia’s first Grandmaster and Hall of Famer Eugene Torre is scheduled to play simultaneous chess exhibition matches on Nov. 10 at the City Auditorium in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental.

National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Board of Director Rey Urbiztondo said select student and chess enthusiasts of Misamis Occidental would be part of the event dubbed as the first Governor Henry S. Oaminal Chess 7 and 1 Team Festival.
Torre will join 13-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster Joey Antonio and International Master Roderick Nava in the exhibition also organized by the Asenso Misamis Occidental Federated Chess Association (AMOFCA) and the Rising Chess Unlimited Development Program.
This will also be the third time that Torre will play simultaneous exhibition matches in the province.
Also part of the event is a team chess tournament, individual blitz and rapid events, executive chess tournament, age group chess championships, round-robin event for the invited chess masters and lecture from the superstars.
Urbiztondo said the open category champion will pocket the lion’s share of P30,000 while the team champion will earn P100,000 for a total cash prizes of P700,000.
