DepEd warns vs deceptive scheme targeting public school teachers
The Department of Education (DepEd) issued a warning on Friday, Oct. 6 against a deceptive scheme called "Labas-Casa," which targets public school teachers with assumed balance or loan accommodation.

"We remind our teaching and non-teaching personnel, and the public as well, to remain vigilant against financial scams," DepEd said.
DepEd has discovered that 29 cases have been filed against the perpetrators of the fraudulent scheme originating in Pampanga.
The scheme aims to provide a car loan to teachers facing financial difficulties in exchange for a certain amount of cash, including a downpayment for the unit.
In addition, victims are promised a passive income through involvement in a transport network vehicle service (TNVS) once their loan is approved.
"Unknown to the victims, the perpetrators have connections to some car dealerships and bank employees who will facilitate a pre-arranged loan approval," DepEd said.
These perpetrators will then abandon their victims once mortgaged cars are turned over to them, giving the teachers more financial woes.
Meanwhile, the department assured the public that it will "continue its close coordination with the authorities to apprehend the individuals behind this and further protect the welfare of teachers against such illegal activities."
Furthermore, DepEd announced plans to provide debriefing, counseling, and psychological first aid to teachers who have been victimized by this scheme.
The department also noted that to report similar or other situations, call the DepEd Public Assistance and Action Center at 8636-1663 or 8633-1942 or send an email to [email protected].
