Empowering Filipino storytellers

TikTok, the leading destination for short-form mobile video, and Viva, a premier multimedia company, have teamed up to launch the short film festival #ForYouPelikula. It’s a transformative initiative, which aims to nurture the Philippine short film industry and provides emerging filmmakers and passionate storytellers with a unique platform to shine.

“This campaign is more than just a competition,” says TikTok Philippines entertainment lead Julie Zhu. “It’s a celebration of storytelling and a testament to the boundless creativity within our community.”

Participating in the festival is easy! Interested filmmakers need only to upload a video using the hashtag, #ForYouPelikula, until Oct. 22. At least 18 years old, they must be the owner of the TikTok account the short will be uploaded on.

The top five finalists will be given ₱10,000 each and have their short video turned into a professionally produced short film replete with actors. The Best Short Film Award, chosen among the top five, will receive ₱50,000.

A taste of Spanish cinema

¿Estás listo? (Are you ready?) Beginning today until Oct. 15, the PELÍCULA>Pelikula Spanish Film Festival returns for its 22nd edition. Expect to see up to 23 Spanish films screened at Shangri-la Plaza’s Red Carpet Theater. Up to seven films will also be screened online.

Similar to previous editions, this year’s film program has been carefully curated from a range of genres, including drama, comedy, horror, thriller, family, musicals, and animation, which should satisfy the cinematic interests of the festival’s avid and diverse viewers and followers.

Headlining this year’s program is Pelicula en Verde, an initiative in which for each

spectator of any of the films marked as such, a tree will be planted. These films are Alcarràs

(Carla Simón, 2023), As bestas (Rodrigo Sorogoyen, 2022), El Olivo (Icíar Bollaín, 2016),

Fonos (Gabriela Badillo Sánchez 2021), and Tierra (Julio Medem,1996). Each of the films center on themes about nature and environmental issues. This initiative, conducted in partnership with Haribon Foundation, is sponsored by Acciona, one of the top Spanish infrastructure companies.

All screenings are free on a first come, first served basis.
