Vice President Sara Duterte's "insidious motivations" remark is a virtual swipe against numerous personalities in the legislature who are either questioning or want to change the rules the use of confidential funds in government.
Thus, said ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro Thursday, Oct. 5 as she illustrated the reach of the Vice President bellicose statements regarding confidential funds.
"Siya ang gumastos ng P125 million sa loob ng 11 araw na walang paliwanag tapos kaming mga nagtatanong kung paano ito ginastos pa ngayon ang masama?" Castro said.
(She's the one who spent P125 million in 11 days without explanation, and now the people who are questioning it are the ones who are bad?)
"Sa logic ni VP Duterte masama daw ang hangarin ni Senate President Zubiri, Senators Villanueva, Pimentel at Hontiveros sa pagkwestiyon sa paggastos sa confidential fund," she said.
(Based on VP Duterte's logic, Senate President Migz Zubiri, Senators Joel Villanueva, Koko Pimentel, and Risa Hontiveros have evil intentions for questioning how confidential funds are spent.)
"Ayon sa kanyang statement may 'insidious motivations' din daw si Speaker Romualdez, Rep. Co, Lagman at ang buong Makabayan bloc pati na din si Rep. Stella Quimbo at iba pang mga partido sa Kamara sa pagtutulak ngayon na tanggalin ang confidential funds sa mga ahensya na wala namang kinalaman sa national security," added the House deputy minority leader.
(Based on her statement, Speaker Martin Romualdez, Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, Albay 1st district Rep. Edcel Lagman, the whole Makabayan bloc, and even Marikina City 2nd district Rep. Stella Quimbo, and all the parties in the House that are pushing to strip civilian agencies of confidential funds all have 'insidious motivations'.)
"Instead of trying to justify her illegal confidential fund spending in 2022 and asking for more secret funds, VP Duterte should concentrate on how to improve the dismal state of education now," Castro further said.
Duterte on Wednesday, Oct. 4 defended her office's use of confidential funds during the 122nd Police Service Anniversary of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Office 13.
“Anyone who attacks or undermines funds allocated for peace and order is naturally assumed to have insidious motivations. Such actions go against the protection and well-being of our citizenry. Those who seek to compromise the security and development of our nation jeopardize the very fabric of our society and hinder our progress,” Duterte said at the event.
