Village treasurer shot dead in Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY â€“ Gunmen killed a barangay treasurer and wounded a 54-year-old widow in Villaba, Leyte on Thursday, October 5.

Police identified the fatality as Mateo Rasonable, 41, of Barangay Mataloto, Leyte, Leyte.

Initial investigation disclosed that Rasonable and back rider Angielyn Gulanie of Barangay Cabungahan, Villaba, were on their way to Barangay Mataloto from a bank in Carigara, Leyte on board a motorcycle when three men appeared and shot the fatality in Barangay Cabungahan.

Rasonable sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot.

Gulanie also sustained bullet wounds but was able to escape. She was taken to a hospital in Ormoc City, Leyte.

Suspects fled on board a single toward Barangay Calbugos, Villaba.

Three barangays in the municipality of Villaba have been tagged as areas of concern in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 30.
