Phivolcs records slight increase in Mayon volcanic quakes in past 24 hours
The Mayon Volcano Network has monitored a slight increase in Mayon Volcano’s earthquakes in the past 24 hours, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Thursday, Oct. 5.

In its 8 a.m. bulletin, Phivolcs said Mayon’s volcanic earthquakes increased from five on Wednesday, Oct. 4, to 30 on Thursday.
Phivolcs also said the rockfall events increased from 92 to 127 during the same monitoring period.
Rockfalls and pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) caused by lava flow margin and summit dome collapses have left debris deposits within four kilometers of the crater, it added.
The lava flows remained at 3.4 kilometers along the southeastern flank's Bonga gully, 2.8 kilometers along the southern flank's Mi-isi gully, and 1.1 kilometers along the eastern flank's Basud gully.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs said the sulfur dioxide or SO2 emission averaged of 1,838 tons per day on Oct. 4.
Mayon Volcano is still under Alert Level 3, which means it is in a "relatively high level of unrest" with possible hazards of eruption within the next days or weeks, said Phivolcs.
Phivolcs warned of the dangers of PDCs, lava flows, rockfalls, lahars, and sediment-laden streamflows, among other volcanic hazards. (Lizst Torres Abello)
