More than 275 kilos of illegal drugs were intercepted at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) from an alleged drug syndicate that imported them from Mexico, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed on Thursday, Oct. 5.
Col. Jean Fajardo, chief of the PNP-Public Information Office, said the illegal drugs were discovered inside a container van when it was subjected to X-ray and physical examination.
“The initial report that we received was that there were 200 to 275 kilos of illegal drugs. But there could be more as the inventory is still ongoing,” said Fajardo.
Fajardo said the operation stemmed from the intelligence report received by the PNP-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) over the weekend over the possible arrival of a shipment of illegal drugs.
The information, she said, was received last week and was immediately relayed to the Bureau of Customs.
Fajardo said the illegal drugs were found inside several boxes.
“Based on the initial test, it was confirmed to be shabu,” said Fajardo.
