Introspection and renewal over challah and pandesal
Israel's ambassador celebrates Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah is one of the most meaningful public holidays in Israel. It marks the beginning of the Jewish new year, which usually falls sometime in September and October. A tradition that has been observed for over 5,000 years now, it is a time for introspection that culminates in yet another important celebration, Yom Kippur.

This year, Israel’s ambassador to the Philippines, H. E. Ilan Fluss, hosted a belated celebration of Rosh Hashanah at the Pandesal Forum by Kamuning Bakery last Sept. 20.
“Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of the world and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in the Yom Kippur holiday, also known as the Day of Atonement,” the ambassador said.

“This high holiday is a time to do self-reflection of the previous year and an opportunity to
make decisions for the coming year,” he added. “As we enter this new phase, the Embassy of Israel looks back on the fruitful year we had here in Manila.”

Rosh Hashanah was observed from Sept. 15 to Sept. 17.
