Cops file charges vs truck driver in Caloocan road accident


The Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) confirmed on Thursday, Oct. 5, that it filed a reckless imprudence resulting in homicide case against the truck driver involved in a road accident that left a senior citizen dead in the city on Monday, Oct. 2.

Based on the police report, the incident happened at around 2:45 p.m. along Zabarte Road in Barangay 175.

Police said that the victim, Rodolfo Sta. Rita, 67, a resident of the barangay, was crossing the road when he was bumped by a six-wheeler Sinotruck Howo Transit Mixer driven by Romeo Espanola Jr., 40.

A closed-circuit television footage also showed that the truck’s left front and rear tires ran over the victim’s head which led to his death.

CCPS operatives immediately responded to the incident and arrested the truck driver.

The police, along with one of the victim’s children, filed the complaint against Espanola at the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office on Oct. 3.

The suspect is currently under the custody of the CCPS Cadena de Amor Substation, police said.
