TACLOBAN CITY – The local government of Carigara, Leyte suspended face-to-face classes in all schools in the municipality on Friday, October 6.
Mayor Eduardo Ong Jr. said the Local School Board unanimously approved the suspension of classes due to the numerous activities attended by teachers in celebration of World Teachers' Day on October 5.
"To give teachers respite and much-needed rest in teaching school children in face-to-face classes, the Local School Board decided to adopt a substitute instruction modality to children."
Ong directed teachers to give school children assignments for the day on an alternative modality.
He said that they have prepared a dinner and program for teachers, including those who have retired from service.
The Department of Education had issued a memorandum shifting to various blended learning modalities to allow teachers to participate in activities on October 5 and give them ample time to complete election-related duties for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 30.
The memorandum applied to public elementary and secondary schools, including community learning centers of the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
