Caloocan gov't receives mobile Material Recovery Facility from UNDP

  • The Caloocan City government announced on Thursday, Oct. 5, that it received an new and advance mobile Material Recovery Facility (MRF) from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) that will help in its waste management programs in line with its goal to reduce pollution in the city.

The Caloocan City government announced on Thursday, Oct. 5, that it received a new and advanced mobile Material Recovery Facility (MRF) from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) that will help in its waste management programs in line with its goal to reduce pollution in the city.

The UNDP said the mobile facility is equipped with a multi-purpose shredder, glass pulverizer, a generator set, and a plastic melter that will help communities to recycle and process plastic and glass waste into useful items.

It added that the facility is part of the assistance provided to the city under the Accelerating Nationally Determined Contributions through Circular Economy in Cities (ACE) Project.

The ACE Project is a collaboration between UNDP Philippines and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), with support from the Government of Japan, that enables and accelerates the country’s transition to circular economy to achieve its economic, social, and environmental goals.

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan  thanked the UNDP and other national and international agencies including the CEMD, UNDP, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the Japanese Embassy for assisting the local government in creating “greener” communities.

He also urged the city residents to observe proper collection and recycling of wastes and to always keep their surroundings clean to help in the city government’s efforts to have a safe and healthier Caloocan City.

“Ginagawa po ng ating pamahalaang lungsod ang lahat ng paraan upang mabawasan ang polusyon at mga pagbaha sa iba’t-ibang mga barangay sa Caloocan. Patuloy po natin itong tinututukan hindi lamang para sa kagandahan ng ating lungsod kundi para na rin sa kaligtasan ng ating mga mamamayan tuwing may mga sakuna,” the Mayor said. (The city government is doing all it can to minimize pollution and flooding. We will focus our efforts on this not just for the beautification of our city but more to ensure the safety of our citizens during times of calamities.)
