6 ex-cops tagged in Jhemboy Baltazar death surrender after issuance of arrest warrant

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has taken into custody six former policemen who were charged in connection with the killing of 17-year old Jerhode Jemboy Baltazar in a police operation on Aug. 2 in Navotas City.

CIDG director Maj. Gen. Romeo Caramat said the six former Navotas policemen surrendered to his men after an arrest warrant was issued against them by a Regional Trial Court in Navotas City for a case of murder.

Those who surrendered were Roberto Dioso, Edmard Blanco, Benedict Mangada, Gerry Maliban, Antonio Bugayong, Jr., and Nikko Esquillon,  all formerly assigned to the Navotas City police station.

He said all of them immediately underwent booking process that includes taking of mugshots, fingerprinting and medical check-up as part of the protocol.

The Navotas City Regional Trial Court (RTC) has ordered the arrest of six dismissed police officers implicated in the death of Baltazar in a case of mistaken identity on Aug. 2.

The court said it found probable cause in the case of murder and issued an arrest warrant. The case is non-bailable.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) earlier approved the Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service's (PNP-IAS) recommendation to dismiss the respondents from the service over the killing of Baltazar.
