The Fighting Maroons used a strong 32-9 run in the opening period to blast the Red Warriors and remain unbeaten in two games.
The 6-foot-11 big man carried the fight for UP with another double-double performance of 19 points and 16 rebounds on an 8-of-10 shooting including two steals and three blocks.
Meanwhile, CJ Cansino helped Diouf after finishing with 17 points of his own on a decent 3-of-5 shooting from outside.
The Fighting Maroons led by as many as 26 points in the opening period, 32-6, but the Red Warriors managed to stage a comeback and even cut the deficit by a single digit, 62-53, in the fourth period on a Rey Remogat layup before he was pulled out from the game due to minor cramps.
By the time Remogat rejoined the Red Warriors’ fightback, the deficit had stretched back to 20 points after Cansino’s three-pointer, 77-57.
With two minutes left in regulation, Malick and Cansino had been taking turns to keep UP’s huge advantage.
UE import Precious Momowei paced UE in the losing effort with a double-double showing of his own with 12 points and 22 rebounds, which went nowhere as he struggled on a 3-of-12 shooting.
Remogat and Abdul Sawat added 11 and 10 points, respectively, as the Red Warriors absorbed a 1-1 record.
