In a groundbreaking move, a dental nurse has won the first-ever makeup-free beauty contest.
Natasha Beresford, 26, won the Miss London 2023 title in the regional heats of the Miss England competition. After winning the Miss London title, she will advance to the Miss England final, scheduled for later this year.
Natasha impressed judges by wearing a white lace dress by Shikoba Bride - which produces ethically and sustainably produced wedding dresses in the UK.
In a first of its kind in the competition's 95-year history, she competed without any makeup and outdid 18 other women to claim the title, according to a report by dailymail.co.uk.
Contestants in this year's pageant were not allowed to wear any makeup, unlike previous years where they were only asked to submit unedited pictures of themselves.
Pageant organizers aimed to promote a more realistic body image by focusing on natural looks, empowering women, and boosting confidence.
"I am thrilled to have been selected as Miss London. All the girls that competed are so beautiful and truly inspirational, so it was an honor to be chosen," said Natasha in an interview with dailymail.co.uk.
She added: 'I find my job really rewarding, over the years I have worked in the NHS, as well as private and urgent care dental practices.
'For the future, I would like to do further training in dental radiography and oral health education.
'I also plan on volunteering with Dentaid for their UK outreach dental clinics, where they provide dental care and oral health advice for people experiencing homelessness, survivors of abuse, families in poverty, refugees, cancer patients, and people recovering from addiction," Natasha also said.
