Mayor Sandoval, Sen. Marcos lead distribution of financial aid to 2,000 Malabon students
Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and Senator Imee Marcos led the ceremonial distribution of cash aid to 2,000 students of the City of Malabon University (CMU) on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
The financial aid is under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.
The distribution of the educational assistance to the 1st to 4th year college students was held at the Malabon Sports Complex. The learners received P5,000 each.

Sandoval said the program, recognizing the different financial hurdles of the students, reaffirms the city government’s commitment to education and unwavering support for the dreams and aspirations of the youth.
“Education has always been the bedrock of our society. It is the lighthouse that guides us through the darkest of storms, the compass that points the way to a brighter future. It is the great equalizer, a force that transcends socio-economic barriers, allowing individuals to rise above adversity and transform their lives,” she said.
“The AICS program, under Senator Marcos's care, has become a symbol of hope and solidarity. It reaches out to those who find themselves facing unexpected crises, ensuring that their educational dreams remain intact. It is a testament to the fact that when communities come together, they can overcome any challenge,” the mayor added.

AICS is one of DSWD’s services that provides medical assistance, burial, transportation, education, food, or financial assistance for other support services or needs of a person or family, including those who are in the vulnerable sector or victims of calamities (e.g. fire, flooding).
Marcos said the distribution of the assistance was in response to the students' request for help in different aspects of their education such as their finances, uniforms, transportation, gadgets, books, and other fees.
Sandoval thanked the senator for the cash assistance that will help improve the students’ lives and education.
“As we distribute this assistance today, let us remember that this is more than just financial aid; it is a lifeline of support for our students. It is a symbol of our collective commitment to nurturing the potential within each one of them. It is a promise that they are not alone in their educational journey and that, as a community, we believe in their capacity to succeed,” the mayor also said.
“This support is not merely a financial transaction; it is an investment in your future. It is a vote of confidence in your ability to excel and contribute positively to society. Use this opportunity wisely, not just for personal growth but as a means to uplift your families and communities,” she added.
Marcos also gave computer sets with headsets to 10 students from the CMU during the event.
Present during the distribution were CMU President Glen De Leon, Philippine Red Cross - Malabon Chairman and former City Congressman Ricky Sandoval, city councilors and department heads.
