E-commerce growth to highlight cashless expo

Digital bank Maya and telecom giant PLDT Inc. will lead Go Digital Pilipinas’ (GDP) Cashless Expo 2023 to discuss innovation and the digitalization of financial products and services to further expand e-commerce.

The companies will be co-presenters in the expo to be held on Nov. 17 to 19 at the World Trade Center, in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Department of Tourism (DoT), and the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Al Panlilio, PLDT president and CEO and chairperson at Maya Bank, said PLDT “always welcomes opportunities to support and work hand-in-hand with partners in the government and private sector to accelerate digital adoption.”

“Our goal is to facilitate greater participation in e-commerce among Filipinos, ensuring that everyone moves towards progress together," said Panlilio.

The three-day trade show will exhibit the country’s current and ideal digital financial services, payment solutions, and contactless methods for consumers and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

According to Ding Villarino, PLDT Enterprise vice president and head of Business Development and Industry Consulting, the event will “showcase Filipino-made products at the forefront,” especially purchased and sold through digital payment transactions, and promote various approaches to cashless payments for consumers and digital options for merchants.

“As the Philippines' most comprehensive financial services ecosystem, our goal is to catalyze the widespread adoption of digital transactions among consumers and enterprises, including our MSMEs. In the process, we aim to enable more advanced digital banking services like savings and credit," said Shailesh Baidwan, President of the Maya Group and Co-Founder of Maya Bank.

GDP, a non-profit organization implementing the initiatives created under the Digital Infrastructure Pillar of the Presidential Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC), is seeking to improve the lives of Filipinos by promoting digital literacy and a sustainable digital ecosystem to close the digital divide.

PLDT, through the GDP membership of Pres. Panlilio, and Maya expressed their support for the GDP movement’s goals to accelerate digital financial services to elevate customer experience and lead the country to a safe and efficient cashless system.
