Man takes 5-year-old hostage; surrenders to police in Pasig City
A man who took a five-year-old child hostage in Barangay Pinagbuhatan in Pasig City surrendered after a peaceful negotiation with the local police early Thursday morning, Oct. 5.
Col. Celerino Sacro Jr., Pasig Police chief, identified the suspect as "Luigie," 34.
Investigation showed that the Pasig Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) team received a call from the Station Tactical Operation Center (STOC) about an alleged hostage taking in Batok Street, Eusebio Avenue in Barangay Pinagbuhatan at around 3 a.m.
Police said the suspect was seen being chased by the people in the area after being accused of theft, prior to the hostage incident.
The suspect was reportedly armed with a bladed weapon, entered one of the houses, and took the five-year-old child as hostage.
The Pasig SWAT team and operatives from Police Substation 5 were immediately deployed to negotiate with the suspect. After the negotiation, he peacefully surrendered to the police.
Recovered from the suspect was a 7.5 inch bread knife.
He is now detained at the police custodial facility.
