Jose Rizal University tainted the erstwhile perfect record of Emilio Aguinaldo College with a 77-71 win in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Jonathan Medina and Marwin Dionisio spearheaded the offense for the Heavy Bombers as they engineered a 7-0 run which piled up the lead to 74-63.
From there, JRU would repel repeated attempts from EAC to win its third game against a single loss.
Despite playing spoiler to streaking teams early in the season — one against the Mapua Cardinals last Sunday— Bombers head coach Louie Gonzales said they must remain focused regardless of the record of the squad they are facing.
“Kung ano yung nasa harap namin, stay in the moment. Trabahuhin natin itong nasa harap natin at saka na natin yung susunod,” Gonzales stressed.
The Shaw-based group displayed their prowess offensively and defensively after EAC committed 21 turnovers which translated to 24 points on the other end.
Agem Miranda and Dionisio combined for 23 points to keep JRU ahead in the first half despite some resistance from EAC's JP Maguilano and Nat Cosejo.
Ralph Robin and King Curtiza tried to rally the Generals but their efforts came too late to keep their standing unscathed.
Nat Cosejo topped the scoring for EAC with 15 points while Robin and King Gurtiza had 12 and 11 points, respectively.
