Google unveils Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro with new AI features and seven years of software support

Google has announced its latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which are powered by the company’s own Tensor G3 chip and feature upgraded cameras, new sensors and more.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have elegant designs with softer silhouettes, beautiful metal finishes and recycled materials2. The Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch Actua display, while the Pixel 8 Pro has a 6.7-inch Super Actua display with the brightest screen yet. The Pixel 8 Pro also has a temperature sensor that can scan objects to get their temperature and a Face Unlock feature that meets the highest Android biometric class.

Both phones have powerful camera systems that can capture stunning photos and videos in low-light settings, with optical zoom, autofocus and macro focus. The camera app has a redesigned interface and Pro Controls for more creative options. The phones also have new editing tools that use generative AI to enhance photos and videos, such as Best Take, Magic Editor and Audio Magic Eraser. The Pixel 8 Pro will also get Video Boost later this year, applying cutting-edge processing to videos for better color, lighting, stabilization and graininess4.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro also have improved AI capabilities, making them more helpful and personal. They can summarize webpages, read aloud and translate webpages, understand natural speech and voice commands, screen spam calls, and suggest contextual replies. They also have Titan M2 security chip that protects personal information and makes the phones more resilient to sophisticated attacks5.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will receive seven years of software support, including OS upgrades, security updates and regular Feature Drops. They are available for pre-order starting today at $699 and $999 respectively. Customers who pre-order a Pixel 8 Pro will get a Pixel Watch 2 for free. The phones will be available at the Google Store and retail partners from October 12.
