DICT chief underscores cybersecurity as vital foundation in PH

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has emphasized the significance of cyber security in the Philippines, emphasizing its role in addressing evolving threats and safeguarding the nation’s critical information infrastructure.

“A resilient and robust cybersecurity sector is therefore a necessary foundation for our country’s digitalization efforts,” DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy said during the PROTECT 2023 security and safety conference at the New World Makati Hotel on Sept. 29.

Speaking at the conference’s “Session 5: State of our National Security—Securing our Critical Infrastructures and Resources,” Uy called for a unified effort to safeguard the country’s cyberspace to counter the growing global and local cyber threats.

He also urged institutions and businesses to conduct thorough cybersecurity assessments, embrace sound cyber hygiene practices, and collaborate with the government in establishing their own Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs).

Uy assured that the government is committed to strengthening its own defenses.

“On our end, for the government, we will further equip ourselves with the needed tools, and equipment and train skilled personnel to fortify our defenses,” he said.

“And the government is ready at any time to help you with your digital transformation as well as in securing your digital infrastructure. I am confident that by working together we will create a secure digital future for every Filipino so that we all can reap the benefits of the digital economy,” he also said.
