DFA condoles with fishermen's families; probe still ongoing
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has condoled with the families of three Filipino fishermen who died after their boat collided with a foreign vessel off Bajo de Masinloc.
Before taking any action, DFA said, it will first wait for the conclusion of the investigation launched by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) regarding the incident that happened on Monday, October 2.
"The Philippine Coast Guard is conducting a thorough investigation to shed light on what transpired and to identify the vessel responsible," the agency said on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
"Out of respect for the bereaved families, we consider it prudent to wait for the results of the investigation before making any further statements in this regard," it added.
Filipino fishing boat (FFB) "Dearyn" was moored about 85 nautical miles northwest off Bajo de Masinloc or 180 nautical miles from Agno, Pangasinan when it was rammed by a commercial vessel around 4:20 am, PCG reported.
Its boat captain and two crew members died due to the incident while 11 other crew members survived.
"We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the families of our fisherfolk who perished in this tragic event at sea," DFA said.
