Customs surpasses Sept. collection goal

The Bureau of Customs (BOC), the second largest tax agency in the government, surpassed its collection target for the month of September.

In a statement, the Customs bureau said that it collected over P79.225 billion in duties and taxes last month. This amount exceeded the target for the period by P2.78 billion or 3.64 percent.

The expected collection for September 2023 was P76.445 billion.

The Customs bureau's performance in September contributed to a total revenue of P660.7 billion for the first nine months of the year, surpassing the target of P664.18 billion by 2.6 percent.

This improved performance can be attributed to effective customs operations, increased trade activity, and diligent efforts in revenue collection under the leadership of Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio.

The achievements of the Customs bureau reflect its commitment to promoting the nation's economic growth. 

By doing so, it can provide the necessary funding for government programs and services that aim to benefit the Filipino people.

In a recent collaboration, Customs partnered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Strategic Trade Management Office (STMO), and ARISE Plus Philippines. 

These partnerships aim to enhance customs processes and improve competitiveness in trade.

Furthermore, Customs conducted 730 anti-smuggling operations throughout the year, resulting in the seizure of smuggled goods worth P35.963 billion.

Their proactive border protection against illicit activities has proven the Customs’ commitment to mitigating illegal poaching.
