'All love' from PH as Clarkson looks back at Gilas stint ahead of 10th year in NBA

In a video of the Utah Jazz Media Availability press conference posted on the team’s YouTube page, Clarkson, who is coming in for his 10th year in the NBA, shared that he definitely felt the love from the Filipino fans while donning the country’s colors in the global showpiece

“It was fun but I definitely wanted to win some more games but just having the opportunity to represent the country and play, that was a fun experience,” said Clarkson.

Clarkson displayed his NBA pedigree for the Nationals during the World Cup, averaging 26 points per game including the 31-point explosion in Gilas last game in the tournament against China.

Although the team finished with a 1-4 record, Clarkson’s efforts were not put to waste with the Filipino fans celebrating him all throughout the stint – something that the veteran guard knew his fellow NBA players also experienced during the World Cup.

“It’s something you really can’t describe. I think you just got to be there to really see it and feel that energy. Everybody that came to Manila felt that, especially the NBA guys and guys from other countries, they were getting hounded as well,” said the Gilas naturalized player.

“It was all love. The Philippines is a real big basketball place. I think everybody felt it when they were there,” he added.

Clarkson said he loves representing the Philippines on the international stage and that he could have spent more time in the country if not for his commitments back in the US.

“I love being able to represent and show the love back. When I go there and spend much time over there I was there for a month and a half, could have been more but I got some stuff to do over here.”
