Cherry Veric presents his wildest dreams with his new collection “Incunabula”

Unconventional silhouettes and a new take on florals, those are what Filipino fashion designer Cherry Veric envisioned for spring-summer 2024. Showcased at the Cyrsos Spring Glamour Fashion Show last Oct. 27 was his latest collection “Incunabula,” meaning the first form of things. What he sent down the runway were glittered ‘fits exploring the different shapes of floras.

“I have always been drawn to the shapes and textures of orchids which I first saw as a kid on market days in my town and in the garden of my mother,” the designer told Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “They were the original inspiration for this collection. Their beauty, longevity, and tenacity amaze me. When I think about what we wear, I think about the first forms of nature—the natural shapes, textures, and colors that stun us into admiring silence.”

“Incunabula” captured Cherry’s style throughout his years of designing, but what makes it different can be seen in the prosthetic feel of some of the pieces. He merged the magic of botanicals with the beauty of the human form, producing pieces that were, fresh, enchanting, and seductive.

According to the designer, the collection is also a tribute to pop singer Taylor Swift and the late designer Thierry Mugler. That touch can be seen in the bejeweled ensembles with petal-like tops, which can easily be seen on “The Eras” concert stage, and the coral-white finale look with a skirt that flowed outward to form a shell, reminiscent of Mugler’s 1995-96 couture creation.

It took over eight months to complete the line, which Cherry defined as his “most intricate and artisanal collection yet.”

“I want everyone to see the collection and feel weightless, unencumbered, sexy, hot, and free, free, free!,” the designer said.
