LPA to dissipate; cloudy skies, rain showers to prevail over most of PH

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, Oct. 31 said cloudy and rainy weather may persist over most of the country due to four weather systems.

PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be felt over Bicol Region, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Palawan, Quezon, Aurora, and Visayas due to the trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) and shear line—an area where the cold northeasterly winds and warm easterly winds converge.

The LPA was last seen 470 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.

It still has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours and may dissipate when it moves closer to southern Luzon, particularly in Bicol Region, PAGASA pointed out.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides in high-risk areas due to moderate to heavy rains.

The northeast monsoon or amihan may also bring cloudy skies and light rains to Batanes, Cagayan and Isabela, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies will be felt in Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), the rest of Cagayan Valley, and the rest of Central Luzon.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is also warned of flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms. (Lizst Torres Abello)
